Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that it is returning to Kentucky next season with the addition of the Bowling Green Bandits. “Kentucky is truly basketball country as can be evidenced by one of our former ABA Champions, the Kentucky Bisons,” stated ABA CEO. “So we are extremely pleased to be back there with the Bowling Green Bandits and we know that the team will have some great players from which to choose. And also, Bowling Green is the home of Spalding, the manufacturer of the red, white and blue ABA ball. The ownership and management of this team is outstanding.”
The Bowling Green Bandits are co-owned by Matt Morris and Lawrence Andrew Sisco. Matt is a former 4th region player of the year in Kentucky ’05 for Franklin-Simpson. He was also TJCCAAC All Conference in 05-06 at Jackson State Community College in Jackson TN and now owns Morris Auto Detailing in the Bowling Green area and has spent time on mission trips to Montana to help kids learn basketball and grow in Christ.
Andrew Sisco works full time at Franklin Precision Industries, a manufacturer of car parts and also is VP for the Franklin-Simpson Youth Soccer Leagues. “I love Kentucky basketball,” added Sisco. “When I was introduced to the ABA, I instantly fell in love because I saw how the league was run, and how much passion those players had and how much passion the ABA CEO had about his organization. It was a complete no-brainer to jump on board and bring the Bowling Green Bandits alive.”
“I’ve been asked why we named the tem the Bandits,” commented Morris. “It’s because of the local attraction in Bowling Green, Lost River Cave, a cave where the famous and infamous Jesse James gang hid out while on a crime spree in the area including robbing the old Russellville Bank that still stands today. Our mascot is Jesse the Bandit.”
