SOUTH FLORIDA GOLD INTRODUCE NEW HEAD COACH

 

 

J.R. Gamble…

was born in Mobile, AL. He attended Spanish River High School in Boca Raton, FL, where he led his team to their first district championship as their point guard. He then went on to Santa Fe Community College where he became the all time men’s basketball steals record holder. He helped his team to a #1 ranking for Florida Community Colleges, a national ranking of seventh, and the Mid-Florida Conference Championship.

 

After graduating from Santa Fe in 1999, he attended Queens College (now Queens University) in Charlotte NC. While at Queens, he became the single season steals record holder, single game record holder for steals, and single season scoring leader with 611 points. During his senior year, he led his team to their first Elite 8 appearance. He scored 21ppg, grabbing 6.1rpg, dishing out 5.7apg, and he led the nation, in all divisions, for steals with 4.4 spg. He was a Division II All-American, Conference (CVAC) Player of the Year, Athlete of the Year at Queens College, and given the Best Offensive Player Award at Queens. In addition, he was the recipient of the Best Defensive Player Award during his junior year.

 

He graduated Queens with a degree in Philosophy/Religion in 2001 when the Orlando Magic selected J.R., via invitation, to try out for the 2001 draft. Although he was not drafted, he headed to Europe to play point guard for Villanova De Gaia in Portugal. There he led the country in steals with 3.7spg. J.R. served as head coach for the second division club team for Villanova De Gaia while starting at point guard for the first division team.

 

Upon returning to the states, Gamble became the Head Coach for Atlantic High School from 2003 to 2006. In the 2005-2006 season, he led them to their first District Championship in over 25 years. He helped change the culture of the game of basketball for Atlantic High by helping to improve the academic performance of his student athletes and by helping them realize the dream of playing collegiate basketball. He was the Conference Coach of the Year for the 2005-2006.

 

Coach Gamble continued on to Colorado State University as Director of Basketball Operations before joining the Palm Beach State College family as the Men’s Assistant Coach in 2006-2007 and was the Head Women’s Basketball Coach for the 2007-2008 season. He has served as athletic director, teacher and basketball coach for Summit Christian School in West Palm Beach for the last six years. He has helped develop and train many athletes as well as affords them opportunities to pursue college athletics on scholarships.

 

He is the president and owner of GWO Unlimited, a sports specific training company that trains athletes that range from high school to the professional level. He is also the founder and pastor of Restoring Love Ministries, Inc. He is a devoted Husband to Tamara Gamble and loving father to his sons, Elisha, Micah, and Dhiren.
