THANK YOU DAVID STERN

aba2nba_logo2
On behalf of the American Basketball Association (ABA), I would like to thank you for all you have done for professional basketball in the US and around the world.  Under your leadership, the NBA has grown to become one of the premiere leagues in the world and is certainly the ultimate goal of every kid who laces up his shoes and takes his first shot.
Many attribute the success of the NBA to players like Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird,
Jerry West, Kobie Bryant, LeBron James and other marquee players in the 70′s, 80′s, 90′s and today.  But there were incredible players before them – Oscar Robertson, Dr. J., Wilt Chamberlain, Patrick Ewing,
George Gervin, Bill Russell, etc. It wasn’t until you showed up that it all came together and the NBA became what it is today.  You should be very proud.
Every ABA player aspires to be a part of the NBA.  It is truly the “golden ring” of basketball, and the ABA is proud to have been associated with the NBA during these past 13 years.  Your contributions to our sport will not be forgotten.  May the years to come be great ones for your family and you.  We will miss you.

ABA ADDS ROANOKE VA TO NEXT SEASON’S EXPANSION TEAMS

Indianapolis. IN.  The American Basketball Association (ABA) www.abalive.com today announced that it has added a team based on Roanoke VA to its expansion teams for the upcoming season.  “This is a new team,” stated ABA CEO, “but not a  new owner.  Adrian Plunkett formerly had an ABA team while stationed in the Hampton Roads area, and is relocating the Roanoke/Salem area – and is ready to resume play next season. We’re pleased to have him back and this adds another team to our fast-growing Virginia-based teams.”
“It has been my ambition to develop a VA-based team in the ABA of several years. The ABA has seen extensive growth and I believe that the league will gain even more traction over the next few years,” added Plunkett.  “In the development of our initiative to place a team in the Roanoke/Salem area, we have carefully addressed the strategies that will be put into place for pricing, ticket distribution, promotion, advertising and market segmentation.”
Adrian Plunkett was raised by three influential family members, including his mother and father who are retired military; Adrian understood the necessity of hard work and dedication from a young age.  In high school, as a player, he received the Most Outstanding Playher Aware, Mr. Hustle twice, Mr. Defense twice and Most Improved in his high school career.  At Danville Community College, he averaged 28.4 points and helped guide the Knights to their first ever tournament in 2004-05 while leading the team in scoring, steals, minutes played, field goals made and free throws attempted and made.
He continued, “I will work closely with the local schools, Boys & Girls Club, YMCA and other community organizations and appreciate fully the ABA’s commitment to community.”  For more information, email
